Why Couldn’t I Stay Silent
About My Truth?

Mindful Perspective was founded in 2021, during a challenging period of high-conflict divorce. At the time, my sons were aged 14 and 16. My ex-husband, who had historically had little involvement with or concern for my children, was attempting to have my sons removed from my care. He was repeatedly filing motions to portray me as an unfit parent.

My first lawyer, who later did not support me fully in private negotiations, assured me that a guardian would resolve the divorce within six weeks. However, I later discovered that he had a prior relationship with my ex-husband’s legal representative.

My ex-husband was a well-known figure in Rhode Island, and many attorneys I contacted advised me that I needed to engage legal representation as soon as possible, but unfortunately, many could not accept me as a client.

I spent an entire day at the courthouse attempting to obtain a restraining order, however, it was denied, likely due to the fact that my ex-husband was known to the judges and court officials. He had previously mentioned that I might find it difficult to secure a restraining order against him.

After this experience, I realized that in order to protect myself and my children, I would need to approach the situation with strategic, calm, and measured thinking.

Over the subsequent two years, and through numerous court hearings, the court ultimately ruled in my favor.

Looking ahead, plans include expanding the organization by hiring clinicians to better support those in similar situations.
